The Bicolor Angelfish or Two-colored Angelfish, is a popular marine fish species among aquarium enthusiasts. It belongs to the family Pomacanthidae, which consists of various colorful and eye-catching angelfish species. The Bicolor Angelfish is recognized for its striking coloration of vibrant yellow on the anterior half of its body and a deep blue on the posterior half. A splash of deep blue extends upward vertically from the eye to the top of the head and the tail is yellow.
Bicolor Angelfish are typically NOT reef safe. They’re notorious for nipping at corals, particularly polyp stony corals. Instead of coral, stick to live rock and other alternatives for your tank’s environment.
Size and Lifespan
Bicolor Angelfish grow up to be about 6 inches and can live as long as 12 years with proper care, but the average lifespan is around 5-10 years.
Tank Size and Requirements
An aquarium of at least 50 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Bicolor Angelfish are generally peaceful, they can become territorial and aggressive toward other angelfish and similarly shaped species. It's best to introduce them to the aquarium last to minimize aggression. They can be kept in pairs or individually, but if kept in pairs, ensure that they are introduced simultaneously.
Diet
The Bicolor Angelfish is omnivorous, meaning you’ll want to feed it a balanced diet of animals and vegetation. Some foods you can give to your Bicolor Angelfish include veggies such as sheets of nori, Spirulina, and animals like Mysis shrimp and brine shrimp. Sponge is a good treat! These fish benefit from feeding around 5 to 7 times per week. This will keep them full and satisfied and they are less likely to snap at your other fish.
