The royal gramma, also known as the fairy basslet, by its two-toned pattern, which fades halfway across the body from a bright violet to a deep, golden yellow. A black streak through the large eye and black eyespot on the dorsal fin complete the royal gramma's dramatic look.
Size and Lifespan
Royal Gramma grow up to be about 3 inches and can live between 5-10 years with proper care.
Tank Size and Requirements
An aquarium of at least 30 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Royal Grammas are generally peaceful and make good tank mates with other peaceful, non-predatory fish of similar size and temperament. They are territorial, so keeping only one per tank, or ensuring ample hiding spots if keeping more than one, is important.
Diet
Royal Grammas are carnivorous fish that thrive on a varied diet of meaty foods like zooplankton and crustaceans. They are also known to be cleaner fish, removing parasites from other fish and sometimes scavenging on dead food. In captivity, they readily accept a wide variety of foods, including live and frozen foods.
