Striped Raphael catfish have a dark brown or black body with white or yellowish stripes that run horizontally from the head to tail. They also have three pairs of long, black barbels (whisker-like appendages) around their wide mouth.
Size and Lifespan
Striped Raphael Catfish grow to an average length of around 10 inches in the aquarium. With the proper care, their lifespan can be between 10-15 years!
Tank Size and Requirements
We recommend a tank that is 60 gallons for a full grown specimen. Striped Raphael catfish are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other fish, as long as they are of similar size and temperament.
Diet
Striped Raphael catfish are omnivores, and their diet should include a variety of foods, with a focus on algae and plant matter. Offer a varied diet consisting of sinking catfish pellets, algae wafers, and frozen foods such as bloodworm, daphnia and cyclops.
