Discus: Blue Diamond

Discus: Blue Diamond

Symphysodon

A genuine Blue Diamond discus fish will have this solid blue body, as well as red eye color. Occasionally, one may see some slight yellowing on the tail fin, in addition to but not always including smaller sized scales.

Size and Lifespan

Discus grow to an impressive size, being able to reach up to 10 inches in length. Their stately presence and graceful swimming movements make them a captivating centerpiece in larger aquariums. Discus can live up to 8-10 years long.

Tank Size and Requirements

We recommend a tank that is 75 gallons for a group of 4-5 Discus. The more you have, the bigger the thank that is needed. They do better in groups to reduce stress! This species is usually peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful species that are not too large or aggressive. Peaceful, small schooling fish are suitable tank mates as well as most bottom-dwelling fish.  They also need a well-established filtration system, a high-quality diet, and a peaceful, low-light environment with ample hiding spots. Gentle water movement is best. The best temperature range to keep them at is 84-86 degrees!

Diet

Discus require a high-protein diet, with a variety of foods including live, frozen, and commercial foods. Regular feeding is essential, with multiple small feedings throughout the day.
