Eel: Burmese Tire Track

Eel: Burmese Tire Track

Mastacembelus Armatus

The Burmese Tire Track Eel, also known as the Zig Zag Eel, is a freshwater fish with a distinctive appearance. It's an elongated eel with a body covered in a reticulated pattern of dark markings resembling tire tracks. The pale areas in the network are often bright yellow, especially on the belly.

Size and Lifespan

Growing to an average length of around 35 inches in the aquarium, they will need a big space. With the proper care, their lifespan can be between 8-18 years!

Tank Size and Requirements

We recommend a tank that is 125 gallons for a singular full grown specimen. Burmese tire track eels are best kept individually in larger aquariums due to their territorial nature. They can be housed with other peaceful, medium to large fish that won't be considered prey or compete for resources. Good tank mates include larger gouramis, loaches, knife fish, geophagus and severums.

Diet

The Burmese Tire Track Eel is a carnivore that primarily eats live foods like earthworms, black worms and bloodworms. They can be fed frozen bloodworms and krill.
