Tang: Gem

The Gemmatum Tang also known as the Gem Tang, is a gorgeous and highly-prized fish with stunning black body and a galaxy of vibrant white spots. A vibrant yellow tail and yellow accents on the pectoral fins injects a burst of color for added visual excitement.

Size and Lifespan

Growing to an average length of around 10 inches in the aquarium. With the proper care, their lifespan can be between 10-15 years!

Tank Size and Requirements

Given their size, potentially growing over 9 inches and their need for extensive swimming space, a minimum aquarium length of 4 feet is recommended. However, to truly thrive, a larger environment, such as a tank of 6 feet in length and at least 125 gallons, is preferable.

Diet

Although Tangs will eat meaty foods along with the other fish in the aquarium, it is important that they are offered plenty of marine-based seaweed and algae. An herbivore diet will help strengthen the immune system, reduce aggression, and improve its overall health. Offer dried seaweed tied to a rock or use a veggie clip, and feed at least 3 times per week. Sea Veggies, Seaweed Salad and Ocean Nutrition are all ideal products and are very easy to use.
